Location: BRC Ranch, Boling, Texas
Start Date: We are looking for the right fit for our team and are open to a flexible start date, with plans to have the position filled by April /May 2025. If available, it would be good to join us at the Houston Livestock Show which is the first week of March.
Work Hours: Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and alternating weekends (approximately 2 weekends per month)
Position Overview:
BRC Ranch is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable full-time Show Barn Assistant to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the daily care and management of our show cattle, assisting with various ranch tasks, and participating in cattle shows and sales. This role is ideal for someone familiar with show cattle and eager to work in a hands-on, physically demanding environment.
Primary Responsibilities:
Daily Care and Management:
– Feeding, watering, and washing show cattle (approximately 40 head of Brahman cattle)
– Halter-breaking and preparing cattle for shows
– Cleaning pens and maintaining cleanliness in the barn
Show Preparation and Participation:
– Assisting with the preparation and travel to approximately 5 open shows per year
– Participating in the working crew at cattle shows
– Showing BRC cattle
Ranch Assistance:
– Assisting with general ranch tasks such as branding, weaning, and other livestock management activities
– Helping with two live sales per year, preparing sale cattle and helping with picturing and videoing.
Position Requirements:
– Must have basic knowledge of cattle, with a preference for those experienced with purebred show cattle
– Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 75 pounds
– Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions
– Strong work ethic, reliability, and ability to work independently as well as part of a team
– Flexibility to work beyond regular hours during major show and sale seasons
