Asking for Help

Don’t hesitate to reach out for assistance from your colleagues. Seeking guidance is a sign of wisdom, preventing avoidable errors.

The appropriate chain of command for asking for help is:

  • First, use your resources to try to solve the problem yourself. This may include Google, YouTube, office manuals, etc. This keeps the remainder of the team working efficiently, and able to focus on their own jobs without interruption. This method empowers us to tackle challenges thoughtfully, respecting both individual effort and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Remember The Doctrine of Completed Staff Work.
  • If you have taken steps 1 and 2, contact your immediate supervisor or manager.
  • The manager or supervisor may escalate the issue to Lynn, VP of Administration. Lynn has the authorization to take action items such as hiring a repair man, etc.
  • If needed, Lynn will notify Rachel of the issue. This is the final option.

For all businesses, the preferred method for asking for assistance is to make a Basecamp assignment, putting your request in writing. Give as much background as possible to help your supervisor assist you.

Unless it is an emergency, give your supervisor 2 business days to respond.
